Engineers unveil new strategy to boost human capital devt

By Kingsley Adegboye

WORRIED about the dynamic nature of the current business environment which could pose a major challenge to young engineers in the country, the Nigerian Institute of Industrial Engineers (NIIE), has unveiled a new plan to grow capacity within the profession and also ensure the country meets a sizable chunk of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

The new move will see the Institute which has its roots in the University of Ibadan float an Alumni Association to act as a platform for Engineering students, senior and younger professionals to meet, interact and network as they strive to engineer processes and systems that will improve quality and productivity across diverse sectors of the economy.

Against this background, the 2016 Eko International conference recently organized by NIIE availed students the opportunity to present their ongoing projects during the poster sessions for senior professionals for critique and advice accordingly.

Speaking on the theme for this year’s conference; “The Challenge of Sustainable Engineering Innovation for National Development,” Prof. Ayodeji Oluleye, President, NIIE explained that with innovation being the door to productivity and a catalyst for growth, the conference was very apt in the face of the current economic realities.
