Organic farmers vow to promote growing of healthy foods

By Gabriel Olawale

The interim National President of the Organic Farmers Agriculture Research Management Association, OFARMA, Mr. Patrick Abayomi Ofarn, has promised to provide the necessary information and support for growing healthy foods and sustaining the environment through promotion of modern organic agricultural technologies and methodologies.

Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the association, Ofarn said the association was poised at using agriculture to alleviate poverty and eradicate hunger in urban and rural areas.

Ofarn said he was aware of the responsibilities facing his team adding, “The task ahead is no doubt herculean. As we intend to be recognized as a leading provider of organic agriculture information, production, research and management solutions, we are poised to build a giant multi-faceted association with strong basis on research, cooperatives, farms, crop processing, among others. No less emphasis will also be paid to the students’ arm of the association because we intent to carry along upcoming generations of farmers who will ensure the sustainability of these efforts”.

“We intend to achieve all these by applying organic farming methods that combine scientific knowledge of ecology and modern technologies with traditional farming practices based on naturally occurring biological processes. Equally of importance is our liaison with the various governments and agencies within and outside the country. We are all aware that government is naturally blind, looking for walking sticks to walk through to its desired goals. We are going to lend ourselves as this walking stick in the agricultural sector.”
