39-year-old Meddie Ibrahim Semakula suffered the terrible acid attack in 1996, three years after the death of his father in 1993. He had just turned 18 and, as the eldest son, he was due to inherit his late father's assets.
However, he says his uncle hatched a plot to kill him by throwing acid on his face and upper body. His family took him to hospital for treatment and he survived. Unfortunately, however, his appearance was badly altered.

Meddie could no longer work and local stigma over his appearance meant his small businesses failed quickly. Fortunately, his wife Habiba Nansubuga stood by her through his difficulties and they now have seven children together.
Meddie is still undergoing regular skin grafts to improve his appearance, which he nevertheless has learnt to live with.

His uncle was arrested soon after the incident and incarcerated for a few months. However, he never went to trial and was eventually released as a free man. He passed away in 2014.
Meddie says he has forgiven his uncle and has left everything to God.
