A woman decided to marry her own house, in order to promote a fundraising effort, hoping to avoid getting evicted.

She made the desperate “wedding act” after she only managed to raise -through crowdfunding- £56 of the £400,000 she needs to keep the house, which was recently put on the market.
Deborah Hodges laments she will be forced to live in a cramped space with her four children if she has to move away. She does have some income, due to the fact that she spent £2,800 on presents for her kids on Christmas.

The 43-year-old woman “married” her two-bedroom rented house in Bexleyheath, UK, last week. “I had a ceremony. I put my dress on. I don’t care – I have a method in my madness. I don’t care if people think I’m a nutter,” she said, adding that she would have to take her out of the house “kicking and screaming.”

Hodges makes it clear she is single, but that she does have a man –the house, which she calls Norman– in her life. “He looks after us. I think houses do have spirits sometimes,” she says.
