28-year-old Nigerian graduate who sells perfume on the street in Makurdi shares story on life (photos)

Meshach Zhizhi is a 28-year-old Nigerian man from Kogi who has done something remarkable by not giving in to the depression that often comes with being unemployed. The young graduate started selling perfumes on the streets of Makurdi to make ends meet.

Zhizhi in an exclusive chat with NAIJ.com revealed what he went through searching for a job. The young man who belongs to the Bassa tribe in Kogi bagged a master’s degree in development studies from St Paul’s University in Kenya after graduating from Kogi State University where he studied political sciences.

He carefully thought of throwing in his application immediately after his first degree before he decided to further. It was a tough time for him as he lost his father while he was studying in Kenya.

Zhizhi who is the fifth child in a family of eight returned to Nigeria after his program in October 2015 and joined the thousands of Nigerians looking for jobs. Getting a job seemed impossible since he had a preference; he wanted to lecture.

When it dawned on him that six months had passed and he was getting frustrated, he decided to create a job for himself and ventured into the sales of perfumes. The Nigerian graduate took this major step on June 1, 2016.

He was selling the perfumes on the streets of Makurdi and was able to sustain himself with the little he made from the business. According to him, it was difficult getting customers. He considers himself to be a work in progress as he knows he will get to the top someday.

When asked about the challenges he faces, he opened up and talked about the cost of getting the perfumes and selling them. With this new business, his future ambition is to venture into perfumery on a larger scale. He has dreams of starting his own brand; to be made in Nigeria and valued globally.

This is not to say the young man does not have interest in working for the Nigerian government. Zhizhi feels there are so many untapped resources and would like to contribute his quota to the development of the nation with special attention to the educational sector.

Zhizhi’s business so far is booming as he said he makes within N5000 to N8000 daily. He used the opportunity to reach out to the young ones who want to be comfortable and live big. He said nothing good comes easy as he encouraged them to work hard and believe in themselves. It is only when they do this that the future becomes beautiful.
