Breaking: Thousands of Nigerian youths march towards Aso Rock in support of NotTooYoungToRun bill

Thousands of Nigerian youths have taken to the streets of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja to demand presidential assent for the NotTooYoungToRun bill.

The bill has already been passed by the National Assembly and over 26 state house of assemblies, surpassing the required 24 states assemblies' constitutional requirement.

Prominent groups in the country are participating in the procession which has shut down major roads in Nigeria’s capital.

Some of the groups sighted by Naij.com include YIAGA, Say No Campaign Nigeria and Connected Development.

The youths are marching towards the presidential villa where they are demanding audience with President Muhammadu Buhari.

There are fears in some quarters that the president may withhold assent of the bill.

The president has already declined to sign similar bills like the Peace Corps and Electoral Amendment bill.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Director of YIAGA, Samson Itodo, said the rally was organized to demand the participation of young people in Nigeria’s political process.

His words: ''Over 60% of our population are youths and we have decided that we will not be bystanders in our political process.

''52% of voters in Nigeria are young people. We are rising up to say we want young people in public office.

"Young people have something to deliver with innovative ideas, capacity, skills and intellect.''
