Nigerian Senate cuts 2019 presidential nomination form to N10m

- The Senate made the reduction in the Electoral Act No 6 2010 (Amendment) Bill 2017 which it passed on March 30

- The bill, when signed, is expected to prevent political parties from fixing random fees for nomination forms into elective offices

- President Buhari bought his own nomination form at N25million in the build-up to the 2015 elections

The Nigerian Senate has reduced the price of a presidential nomination form in the upcoming 2019 elections to N10million.

The reduction is contained in the Electoral Act No 6 2010 (Amendment) Bill 2017 which the upper house of legislature passed on March 30.

According to reports, the bill, when signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari, will abolish random fees fixed for nomination forms by political parties.

NAIJ.com recalls that President Muhammadu Buhari paid N25 Million for his nomination form in the build up to the 2015 general elections.

Below is the proposed list of nomination forms for some elective offices as contained in the passed bill.

1. N150, 000 for a ward councillorship aspirant in the FCT

2. N250, 000 for an area council chairmanship aspirant in the FCT

3. N500, 000 for a house of assembly aspirant

4. N1, 000, 000 for a House of Representatives aspirant

5. N2, 000, 000 for a senatorial aspirant

6. N5, 000, 000) for a governorship aspirant

7. N10, 000, 000) for a presidential aspirant

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that President Muhammadu Buhari, on Thursday, April 26, during a two-day working visit to Bauchi state elaborated on his intention to re-contest in 2019 general elections.

The president who will re-contest as the candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) while addressing a crowd at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi, explained that salvaging the country from thieving Nigerians was his main reason of seeking re-election.

While expressing dismay at the rate in which Nigeria's money was stolen by unpatriotic citizens, Buhari declared that his administration is ready to arrest all looters of the treasury irrespective of their societal standing.
