Dozens of popular actors and actresses who entertained Africa and captivated us with their unique talents for many years are dead. Many people do not even know that these actors are no longer with us, because they are still alive and well on our television screens.
The hard and sad truth, however, is they are no more.
Their deaths came as a blow to Africa's movie industry, as they were very talented and experienced actors. They may have died but their legacies live on.
1. Sam Loco Efe
He died of causes suspected to be asthma on the set of a movie in August 2011 at age 66.
2. Justus Esiri
He died in February 2013 at age 70. He died of complications from diabetes in a Lagos hospital.
3. Enebeli Elebuwa
Elebuwa suffered a major stroke and was flown overseas for medical treatment. He died aged 65 in a hospital in India on December 4, 2012 and was laid to rest at Victoria Court Cemetery, Ajah, Lagos.
4. Amaka Igwe
The popular Nollywood producer died of an asthma attack in Enugu, in April 2014.

5. JT Tom West
He died in a car accident in 2006 while returning from a movie location after a late night shooting.
6. Geraldine Ekeocha
The actress died in September 2011 during a fibroid operation at age 56.
7. Peter Eneh
Pete Eneh died in November 2012 after one of his legs was amputated at age 68.
8. David Ihesie
The actor died in January 2012 at age 73.
9. Muna Obiekwe
He died of kidney failure in 2015.
10. Ashley Nwosu
He died in April 2011 after a brief illness.
11. Peter Bunor
He battled stroke for five years before dying in May 2015.
12. Dede One Day
He slumped and died in December 2015 while performing on stage in Aba, Nigeria.
13. Clem Onyeka
He was killed in a crossfire between Nigerian police officials and armed robbers in Delta State, Nigeria. He was 37.
14. Bukky Ajayi
She died on July 6, 2016 after an unsuccessful battle with heart-related issues. Her big break into Nollywood was her role in the Village Headmaster in the 70s.
In March 2016, the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) awarded her with the 2016 ‘Industry Merit Award’.
15. Festus Aguebor
He died on February 23, 2016. The cause of his death was undisclosed and came as a shock to all his fans. He was known for his roles in the movies Igbodo and Family Contract.
16. Elder Maya Martins Njubuigbo
The popular actor also died on September 30, 2016 after battling a liver related illness.
17. Olumide Bakare
The well loved thespian passed on on Saturday, April 22, 2017.
18. Moji Olaiya
Moji Olaiya's death in May 2017 came as a shock to many. Mainly because she had just had a baby months earlier. A large number of her colleagues have spoken out on how much they miss her.
