A 38-year-old businessman, Williams Peter, has been arrested by the police in Lagos for allegedly refusing to pay a debt of N600,000 he incurred in a gambling game.
The police also arrested one Solomon Adetoro, the man who operated the game centre, for conniving with Peter to allegedly defraud the management of the gambling firm,.
Peter was said to have approached Adetoro at the gambling outlet on Olowu street, Ikeja, Lagos, on May 24, 2018, and placed several bets without winning but promised to pay the following day, Punch reports.
NAIJ.com notes that he reportedly returned to the outlet the next day, took another round of bets and lost until the money accumulated to N600,000.

It was learnt that the operator did not report the debt to the management until it was discovered by an official, who came to take a record of bets around 9:00pm.
Adetoro said: “He regularly comes to play Casinogambling in our shop. Each time he played without winning, he would beg me to allow him play another game. He played it for two days and the money accumulated to N600,000.
“He wanted to do another N50,000 when I stopped him. He said he had money that I should not worry. It was during the assessment of the account that the N600,000 was discovered.”
In his statement to the police, Peter was said to have confessed to playing the bets on credit. He said he had been gambling for 16 years.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that while trying to celebrate the win of a N36,000 bet, a gambler landed in serious problems which earned him a court appearance.
The gambler, identified as Yakubu Bashir, faced charges at the Ikeja Magistrate's court, on counts of fraud and conduct likely to cause breach of the peace.
Bashir was reportedly arrested at the Bendel Inn, Ipodo road, Ikeja, Lagos, for disturbing people's peace after he was asked to pay for his expenses. He had earlier gone to celebrate his N36,000 win from a sports bet he had made, but had ended up incurring a N145,000 bill on food and drinks (he paid for everyone present at the inn).
