The Lagos state government, as part of its bus reform initiative, has unveiled new modern buses it wants to use to replace and phase out yellow buses popularly known as danfo from the state.

The new air-conditioned Lagos blue buses have begun rolling in as they made their first stop at the newly commissioned Ikeja Bus Terminus.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com recalls that barely more than a year ago, the Lagos state governor, Akinwumi Ambode, unveiled some buses, smaller to the ones above, which he said would replace the popular Danfo buses.

On Monday, February 6, 2017, Governor Ambode said: "When I wake up in the morning and see all these yellow buses and see Okada and all kinds of tricycles and then we claim we are a megacity, that is not true and we must first acknowledge that that is a faulty connectivity that we are running.

“Having accepted that, we have to look for the solution and that is why we want to banish yellow buses this year."

The small buses unveiled in 2017 were reportedly expected to be cheaper and durable and the government allegedly advised danfo bus owners to key into the project now before it is too late.
