The vice president of the Bundeskriminalamt (BKA), German Federal Criminal Investigation Office, Michael Kretschmer, has described the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as “very reliable and professional”, and pledged total support in equipping the Commission’s forensic unit.
Kretschmer made the comment during a courtesy call at the Wuse zonal office of the Commission, on Monday, June 4, to discuss past and future aspects of cooperation between the EFCC and the BKA; and the development was made public on the Facebook page of the anti-graft agency.

NAIJ.com gathers that the areas of cooperation will also cover the field of training and technical assistance.
Kretschmer stated: “EFCC is very reliable and very professional. We shall continue the partnership especially with the equipping of the forensic laboratory. We shall double the effort for the EFCC.”

In reaction, the acting chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, thanked Kretschmer for the visit and urged him to keep supporting the Commission on capacity building, technical assistance and in equipping it’s forensic laboratory.
He said: “I am grateful for your support. We enjoy your tremendous assistance in equipping our forensic laboratory.
“I also want to encourage you to visit the new forensic laboratory so that we can discuss and see how we can be assisted.”
During the meeting, issues concerning fraud, money laundering and cyber-crime investigation cases involving Nigerian and German nationals were also discussed.
Kretschmer was accompanied on the visit by Gerhard Hantschke, head of BKA International Police Cooperation Division; Sven Radke, head of Technical and Training Assistance Section; Heiko Schneider, BKA protocol officer; David Duffy, BKA interpreter and Dominik Muller, BKA liaison office for Nigeria.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that a former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Farida Waziri, expressed joy at the completion of the N24 billion office of the Commission in Abuja.
Waziri who initiated the project during her tenure said that she was pleasantly shocked by the ability of the acting chairman of the anti-graft agency, Ibrahim Magu to bring the plan to fruition.
Magu, according to her, had shown an example of why continuity is necessary in governance in Nigeria.
