It is fake, fraud- Governor Ganduje attacks Kwankwaso over foreign scholarship programme

- Abdullahi Umar Ganduje blasts his predecessor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, over a scholarship policy

- Ganduje laments that the programme is fraud as the beneficiaries only succeed in milking the state government

- The governor promises to review the policy once re-elected for a second term

The governor of Kano state, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has slammed his predecessor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, again describing the latter’s foreign scholarship programme as nothing but fraud.

Daily Sun reports that the governor said this when he spoke with journalists.

Ganduje said if he was re-elected for a second term, he scrutinise and review the policy that has reportedly had some people from the state travelling overseas.

The governor insisted that against claims by Kwankwaso that he had settled the students’ tuition fees upfront, the reality was that the state government had only made initial payments.

“We found a lot of corruption with the case. At present, the case is still with the anti-corruption agency because money was captured at the Cairo Airport which was money collected from them and was being returned to Nigeria. That money is still in Cairo,” he reportedly said.

The governor lamented that the most unfortunate aspect of the programme was that the government was paying much higher fees than the rest of the students as a result of the use consultants who act as go- between

According to the governor, most of the foreign universities are not as competent as Nigeria’s first generation universities.

He recalled how the former executive secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC) alerted Nigerians to the quality of these universities.

“We also discovered that some of the universities were not offering the courses we were sending our students to go and study…. They only started making arrangement to offer these courses after collecting our money.

“We also discovered that most of the courses that our students were sent to study are available in Nigeria."

He said while the state scholarship is about N30,000 per year, the government spends a total of N68, 000 on each of these students every month.

“We were informed by the authorities if we want them to complete the courses we have to give them additional time, which means additional money,” he said.

NAIJ.com reported how Governor Umar Ganduje said President Muhammadu Buhari’s suggestion that Adams Oshiomhole be elected APC national chairman is a personal opinion and not an imposition.

“Buhari’s choice on who becomes the APC next national chairman is his personal opinion; it is not an imposition in any way,” Ganduje told newsmen on Wednesday, April 25, in Abuja.
