The Taraba youths in Jalingo on Monday, June 4, protested against the trial, detention and subsequent sentencing of Jolly Nyame, former governor of the state
The Leadership reports that the youths under Mumuye cultural development association gathered in their numbers in the state capital to protest the sentencing of Nyame.
NAIJ.com gathered that the peaceful protest was terminated at the residence of Nyame in Jalingo where Anthony Vowaty, the national president of the socio-cultural group, read an address to the protesters.

According to them, “We are not fighting the government but we are out to march for solidarity to call on government to be just in its fight against corruption.
“Nyame is our political leader in Taraba and we are ready to take instruction from him, even if he is in the prison.”

The group was, however, quick to express optimism that an appeal process would reverse the judgment of the Abuja High Court that led to the jailing of Nyame without an option of fine.
The added: “We still believe that the judiciary is the last hope of the common man and we believe the Court of Appeal will free him.”
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that a high court of the Federal Capital Territory sentenced Nyame to 14 years in prison without an option of fine.
Nyame was found guilty of 27 out of 41 counts of alleged diversion of public funds while he served as governor of Taraba state.
He was charged by the EFCC for allegedly diverting N1.64 billion while he served as governor between 1999 to 2007.
