It is a sad day for the family and friends of Tanzania's famous conjoined twins, Maria and Consolata Mwakikuti after they recently passed away due to respiratory complications.

The twins who were joined at the navel below, were admitted to hospital in December due to issues relating to heart disease but died on Saturday, June 2. They reportedly shared organs like the liver and lungs, had two hearts and separate heads and arms.

Their mother reportedly died after the birth of the girls and their father soon followed thus making them orphans. They were adopted by the Catholic church charity, Maria Consolata, which gave them their names.
