Wike honours ex-speaker Enegesi, Secondus with Rivers award

- Rt Honourable Claudius Enegesi has been honoured by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state

- Wike honoured Enegesi with the Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State for his service when he served as speaker of old Rivers state House of Assembly

- Peoples Democratic Party's national chairman, Uche Secondus, was also honoured by the governor

A former speaker of Old Rivers state, Rt Honourable Claudius Enegesi, has been honoured with the Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State (DSSRS) by Governor Nyesom Wike.

He was honoured with one of the highest awards in Rivers state for his contribution as speaker of the old Rivers state House of Assembly to the growth of democracy in the state, The Sun reports.

NAIJ.com notes that Wike also presented the award to other recipients including Uche Secondus, national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Enegesi expressed gratitude to Governor Wike for honouring him with the award, adding that he was delighted that his contributions to democracy in Rivers state have not been forgotten.

He urged the people of Rivers state to continue to support Wike as he makes meaningful impact in the state.

Enegesi said: “I want to appreciate the Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state and the people of Rivers state for finding me worthy to be so recognised.

“I want to say I am ever grateful. This is unprecedented in the polity of Nigeria especially in the Niger Delta that after more than 20 years they still found my services in Rivers state to be so acknowledged.

“I commend the Rivers state government. I didn’t do what I did alone, so I want to commend my colleagues in old Rivers state House of Assembly who found me worthy under conditions that necessitated my emergence as Speaker.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that a traffic warden in Rivers state was rewarded for his hard work. The old man was specially honoured by the governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike, at the second edition of the state's government honours.

Opurum, a volunteer traffic warden, was given a merit award for his outstanding work as a traffic warden.
