- An Indonesian migrant worker just found out she is missing a kidney
- She realized her former employers in Qatar performed the surgery without her knowledge
- She wants her government to help her sue the perpetrators
A woman from Indonesia, who had formerly traveled overseas to work, received the shocking information that she had a kidney removed without her knowledge.
There have been numerous reports of abuses migrant workers receive at the hands of their employers, but this is a serious step beyond in the level of suffering these people are subjected to.
25-year-old Sri Rabitah, from Lombok, said the operation was performed three years ago, while she was working in Qatar. She had planned to initially work for a family in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, but the employment agency sent her to the home of a Palestinian family, in Doha.
The new employers told Sri she needed to receive a medical checkup upon arrival. She recalls that when she got to the hospital, she experienced a strange situation. The doctor told her she looked weak, and that he would give her a shot to help her relax.
The shot turned out to be anesthetics. Just before she went under its effect, Sri saw she was being taken into an operating room.

Sri woke up later on, and felt a sharp pain on the right side of her lower back. She noticed a scar and afterwards, blood in her urine.
Her employers were unable to give her a proper explanation, and furthermore, they sent her back to the agency, claiming she was unhealthy and unfit to work.

Sri was assigned to other employers, but fell ill several times. She was eventually sent back to Indonesia. Over the next three years, Sri ignored the frequent pain she felt in her lower back. It was only when a doctor made her a medical checkup, that she found out she was missing a kidney. “My right kidney was replaced with some kind of coiled tube as its replacement,” she complained.
Sri will have a new surgery to get the tube removed. She also wants the people responsible for her creepy experience to be brought to justice, asking the Indonesian government to help her with this quest.
