Two soldiers and several armed bandits have reportedly been left dead in a fierce gun battle that occurred in Bawar Daji village in Anka local government area of Zamfara state.
Daily Trust reports that the council chairman of the LG Alhaji Mustapha Gado who confirmed the incident said the troops deployed to the village engaged the armed bandits in a fierce gun duel resulting to the death of two soldiers including a captain.

Alhaji Gado further disclosed that the corpses of the soldiers were brought to Anka town and then moved to Gusau the state capital adding that the fight continued.
According to him, ''The commander of the troops was in Anka today from the Bawar Daji village, he came for reinforcement and a good number of military vehicles moved in to the battle field to reinforce those already there.''

The chairman, however, noted that he could not tell about the casualties from the armed bandits side until full details on the ongoing operations is fully obtained adding that prayer is being held for the success of the troops.
According to a statement by the Nigerian Army through Brigadier General Texas Chukwu, the director army public relations, ''Troops of 232 Battalion Zuru while on clearance patrol on Wednesday 4 April 2018, encounter armed bandits and neutralize 21 at Tunga Daji in Anka local government Area of Zamfara state.
''During the fierce battle many bandits escaped with gun shot wounds to the top of high ground close to the area. Weapons recovered are :5 AK 47 assault rifles, one Light machine gun, 5 magazines of AK 47 rifle and 35 rounds of 7,62mm special ammunition.
''Unfortunately we lost an officer and a soldier during the encounter. The remains of the officer and soldier has been evacuated to Federal Medical Center Gusau.
''Similarly troops deployed at Bena acted on a tip off and conducted raid operation at bandits Camp in Laka Village of Kebbi State and killed one of the bandit and recovered one AK 47 rifle with a magazine.''
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that not less than 28 people were reportedly left dead while scores others wounded in coordinated attacks that took place overnight on a military camp and villages around the flashpoint Nigerian city of Maiduguri.
A senior officer in Maiduguri who confirmed the incident denied that the numbers of casualties was not up 55, explained that Boko Haram fighters attacked a military base in the Cashew Plantation area at the entrance to the city with bombers, mortars and guns, leading to a prolonged battle.
According to him, ''Eighteen terrorists on foot attacked the military base while seven bombers targeted residents of nearby Bale Shuwar and Alikaranti villages at 8:50 pm. The terrorists fired mortars at troops.''
