Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti is reportedly planning to shun Manchester United’s offer to stay at the Camp Nou next season.

Barely two years after his move to the Catalan club in 2016, he has the France international been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer.

Having told Barca chiefs he wanted to be amongst the highest paid players at the club after Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta, and United were planning to take advantage of the situation to lure the player away from the club.

However, after his side’s 4-1 victory over AS Roma in last night’s UEFA Champions League quarterfinal clash, Umtiti says he is committed to helping the team achieve success, as his current deal at the club expires in 2021.

And after the game, he posted a picture of himself grabbing the Barcelona badge alongside the caption "forca Barca" which translates to 'Strength to Barca.'

And after the game he was quizzed on his celebration and future, in which he said: "The celebration is to say that I love the club.

"I just play, give 100 per cent and try to do well at a club like Barca."

The former Lyon man has a £52 million release clause in his current deal with Barca and United are ready to trigger it, and they are also offering the player an improved pay to join them this summer.

Jose Mourinho has revealed that he is opened to bringing in fresh legs to fortify his team after their poor performance in all competition this season.

Meanwhile, Barcelona coach, Ernesto Valverde is confident his key player will remain at the Nou Camp.

Valverde told AS: “My understanding is that he is happy here; we certainly are with him, and we hope that he stays here for many years.

“I don’t have any kind of strategy to persuade him [to stay]. He’s been here for many years and knows how loved he is; he’ll make the decision he thinks is best, and we’ll respect it.”

The former France youth international has been superb for the Blaugrana since he joined them, and he has equally scored a goal in 47 appearances for the club.

He also has two titles to his credit at the Spanish club, while he also won two trophies before quitting his French Ligue 1 side.
