Ekiti APC governorship aspirants increase to 36 as Ojo declares

- The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti state now has 36 governorship aspirants for the forthcoming election

- The number of aspirants hit 36 following the declaration of Kayode Ojo in the state party secretariat

- Ojo said if he becomes governor of Ekiti state, he will treat the APC with respect and would never use his position as the governor of the state to oppress the party or its members

The aspirants for the forthcoming governorship election in Ekiti state on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has increased to 36.

The increase in the number of aspirants hit 36 after the a member of the ruling party, Kayode Ojo, declared his ambition to run for governorship.

Daily Independent reports that Ojo stormed the APC Secretariat in the state with a large crowd of supporters on Thursday, April 5.

Saluting party officials for holding the party together, Ojo said as a governor, he will work with state working committee of the APC to ensure that the manifesto is executed.

Ojo also said he will throughout his tenure treat his party with respect and will never use his position as the governor of the state to oppress the party or its members.

“It is extremely difficult for the opposition to keep themselves together considering the circumstances under which you are operating.

If I become the governor, I will treat this party with respect. I will work with the State Working Committee (SWC) to ensure that the manifesto of the party is executed to bring dividends of democracy to our people.

I won’t use my position as a governor to oppress the party, because I believe in party supremacy being the vehicle that brought me into governance," Ojo said.

He also assured APC faithfuls of his determination to offer selfless services to the party and the state as a whole.

Also speaking on his declaration, the deputy chairman of the APC in Ekiti state, Kemi Olaleye said all aspirants would be given a level playing ground in the party.

Olaleye said: “We want to say without equivocation that every eligible aspirants will be given a level-playing ground.

Chief John Odigie-Oyegun gave this assurance during his visit to Ekiti on March 9 and I am re-emphasising that there is no cause for alarm.

I want all the aspirants to go to the grassroots and meet the delegates, because it is your work that will work for you," she said.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ekiti state had issued an election notice for the forthcoming July 2018 governorship election in the state.

The electoral body said 218,000 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) were yet to be collected in the state.

INEC also urged residents who were yet to pick their PVCs to do so, saying that they would be disenfranchised during the forthcoming election without the PVCs.
