- Yerima Shettima alleges that Olusegun Obasanjo created the same problems for which is assuming a self-appointed messiah
- Shettima says even though the administration of Muhammadu Buhari has not performed up to expectation, the president is morally better than Obasanjo
- He warned the former president against continued meddlesome in governmental affairs
The national president of the Arewa Youth consultative Forum (AYCF), Yerima Shettima, has lashed out at Olusegun Obasanjo, Nigeria's former president, for allegedly meddling in the affairs of the country, saying the latter’s interference is now disastrous.
In a personally signed statement received by NAIJ.com, Shettima warned Obasanjo to stop turning himself into a self-appointed messiah and trying to define Nigeria's future.
"For quite some time, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has turned himself into a self-appointed messiah in the efforts to define the political and democratic future of this country.

"And the result of this meddlesomeness by the former president has been disastrous for the country," the AYCF president said in the statement on Thursday, April 5.
According to him, is has become disgusting to note that the former president is still bent on interfering with Nigeria's new dimension of addressing leadership problems.
He recalled that these problems were created by the likes of Obasanjo.
Let him know that this time it would be unacceptable.
“We noticed that the former president has made it a duty to lampoon president Buhari at every given opportunity, in a desperate bid to portray himself as Nigeria's democratic superman.
“Much as we are equally disappointed in the underperformance of President Buhari, we are not blinded by the fact that Obasanjo has no moral high ground for his repeated attacks on Buhari.
“The current president may have his serious shortcomings but he is still morally a better leader than Obasanjo.
“We challenge Obasanjo to tell us any of the current political and economic difficulties confronting the nation that are not connected to his meddlesomeness and manipulations. Let him exonerate himself from the current mess facing the country, if at all he can,” he said.
Shettima said his organisation would like to tell the former president that Nigeria has already come a long way from the era of manipulative and so-called former leaders.

“It will no longer be acceptable for any old cargo to decide the fate of over 160 million Nigerians. We have had enough of this domineering old men in the democratic space and we are now saying its over.
“We urge Nigerians of good conscience to ignore Obasanjo's rantings and face the reality of this defining moment in the history of this nation,” he added.
NAIJ.com earlier reported that the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) dismissed a statement from chairman of the Northern Elders Forum, Paul Unongo, suggesting that the northern region had endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari as sole candidate for the 2019 presidency.
