Police in Jigawa seize car, cash, other materials senator arranged for distribution to party supporters

- Jigawa police have seized materials that were to be distributed by a senator in Dutse, the state capital

- Some of the materials seized included vehicles and N1,165,000 in cash which were to be distributed to supporters of his party

-It was reported that Governor Badaru Abubakar of the state was expected to distribute the materials on behalf of the senator, Muhammad Nakudu

Police in Jigawa on Sunday, April 1 seized materials including vehicles and N1,165,000 in cash a senator arranged for distribution to supporters of his party in Dutse, the state capital, Premium Times reports.

NAIJ.com notes that the seized items included a car, four motorcycles, 30 hospital beds, 23 water pumps, 110 yards of brocades and 11 women wrappers.

According to the police commissioner in the state, Bala Senchi, the materials were confiscated to avoid a clash between rival factions of the All Progressives Congress from Gwaram local government area of the state.

The incident occured at Aminu Kano Arena in the state capital where Governor Badaru Abubakar was expected to distribute the empowerment materials to party faithful on behalf of the senator, Muhammad Nakudu.

The commissioner said that the police had to move in after a group announced the suspension of the local leadership of the party which would have received the materials.

He said: “‎The senator distributed some items to people in his constituency but a crisis erupted among beneficiaries in Gwaram as a result of misunderstanding between two factions of the party.

“Sensing that the problem could cause a breakdown of law and order, we acted immediately and took custody of the materials. All the materials are being safely kept until the crisis is resolved and the right party executives come and take them.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the police command in Jigawa state recovered 119 assorted firearms, 65 rounds of ammunition and six life cartridges in the ongoing nationwide recovery of prohibited and illegal firearms by the police.

The commissioner of police in the state, Bala Senchi, disclosed this at a press conference in Dutse, the state capital on Tuesday, April 3.

Sanci said the exercise was conducted in compliance with the directive of Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to police commands to mop up, seize and recover illegal firearms in the country.
