Governors have accused the Nigerian National petroleum Corporation (NNPC) of doubling petrol consumption in Nigeria daily.
The governors under the aegis of the Nigerian Governors' Forum on Wednesday, May 16, said the corporation doubled the daily consumption of petrol in the country from about 30 million litres to 60 million litres.
Led by the governor of Zamfara state, Abdulaziz Yari, the NGF demanded an investigation into the oil subsidy payments made from 2015 to date.

The governors also ordered the NNPC to clearly differentiate its earnings in sales as against taxes before remitting funds to the federation account to avoid unexplained shortfalls.
They also directed that all petrol stations less than 10 kilometres to Nigeria’s borders be immediately shut by the Department of Petroleum Resources until they are re-certified.

Yari said the measures were taken following an allegation against the NNPC on sudden increase in petrol consumption was due to illegal export to neighbouring nations.
Yari said: “This is the second time we are meeting with NNPC in respect of remittances into the federation account."

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported the chairman of the Senate committee on appropriation, Danjuma Goje, has said that no provision was made for the proposed increase in minimum wage and payment of subsidy in the 2018 budget.
Goje said the failure to capture the wage in the budget may have been because deliberation on the issue had not been concluded by the executive.
He also said subsidy payment was not included in the budget because it has been officially abolished by the federal government.
