We do not kill and has never contracted anybody to kill - PDP reacts to Orji Kalu's claim

- The PDP has reacted to a claim by Orji Uzor Kalu that the party kills people during congresses

- The party released a statement denying Kalu's claim

- They urged Kalu to come out and explain himself since he seems to know much about this alleged criminal act

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected a claim by the former governor of Abia state, Orji Uzor Kalu, that the party is fond of killing and hiring people to kill their rivals.

In a statement by the party's national publicity secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, the party asked Kalu, who was a former member to come out and clarify his statement.

Kalu, in a video during the South-East APC caucus meeting in Abuja on May 31, had said if there was a quarrel between PDP members or opposition party, the members sometimes result to killing their rivals, Premium Times reports.

PDP, while reacting to this, said Orji must have been talking about himself and his personal activities when he was a member of the ruling party.

“We state this because the PDP do not kill and has never asked or contracted any of its members or anybody for that matter to kill on its behalf, over any matter whatsoever.

“Since such a claim came from a person of the status and attainment of Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, we hold that he could have certain information that requires explanations to the public.

“The PDP remains a law-abiding political party, whose activities at all levels are guided by strong code of conduct and adherence to the laws of the land."

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com earlier reported that PDP has condemned what it described as unrelenting media trial and persecution of opposition members and perceived opponents of the All Progressives Congress (APC) through anti-graft agencies.

The Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja said members of the opposition were being persecuted under the guise of fighting corruption.

Ologbondiyan said that whereas the PDP is in no way opposed to the fight against corruption, it is completely against government’s resort to media trial and constant harassment of opposition.
