Two Nigerian traffic wardens have met their doom for allegedly collecting N15,000 bribe from a motorist who broke the traffic rules. The suspects were identified as Musa Muktari with force number 394120 GDI and Shuaibu Suleman, 10627 GDII.
The traffic wardens were attached to Wuse Police Division in Abuja. The two men arrested a motorist and allegedly collected the said sum of money from him for jumping traffic light.
After delaying the motorist who claimed not to have money on him for a while, the traffic wardens led him to an ATM machine where he was forced to withdraw N15,000 from his account.
The traffic wardens who extorted money from a motorist were found guilty of the offence.
He gave the money to the wardens. Prior to this, the motorist had begged them saying he was broke and did not disobey the traffic light.

However, the traffic wardens ran out of luck when one of them forgot his mobile phone in the motorist vehicle. The motorist lodged a complaint at the Police Public Complaint Rapid Response Unit (PCRRU). He told them about the extortion and the traffic wardens were summoned.
As expected, the claim was denied until the mobile phone forgotten was produced as evidence. Afterwards, they were taken to the orderly room trial at the provost department in force headquarters.

Abayomi Shogunle, the assistant commissioner of police in charge of the unit said both men were found guilty of the offence. They had abused the office and had taken bribe from the poor man.
“The complainant has also been given back his N15,000 with an apology from the PCRRU. While collecting his money, the visibly delighted man said ‘I never thought this could happen in this country— the officers punished and my money returned to me’.”
