Adedipe Oluwatosin, a 16-year-old Nigerian boy, has been named the young scientist of the year following his success in a competition involving seven hundred and seventy four candidates.
The competition was organized by the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology. Oluwatosin was the winner of the Young Nigerian Scientist Presidential Award. It was held at Eagle Square in Abuja on Monday, June 19, 2017.
Candidates who took part in the competition were from local government areas across the country. The Ekiti state government awarded a cash prize of N2.5m to the winner.
Adedipe Oluwatosin emerged the winner of a competition involving 774 candidates in the country.
He was also given an annual scholarship grant of N1m per year for a period of four years. This is to help him further his studies in the university.

Oluwatosin is an SS3 student of Shepherd International School in Ado Ekiti. He was also the winner of the 2016 Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN) National Science Competition.
He was selected at the national level to represent Ekiti state. He contested with other candidates from the thirty six states. He answered questions in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology during the competition.
He represented Ekiti state and was given N2.5m cash prize and a scholarship grant.

The young winner is the first born of the family. He has three younger brothers. He considers his parents as the greatest influence in his life. He said they have been supportive and has contributed immensely to the person he is today.
His dream is to be a doctor and help save lives. Oluwatosin is an all-rounder as enjoys playing games like Chess and Scrabble. He also loves racing as well as football.
