Nyumba Kumi chairman and former provincial commissioner Joseph Kaguthi wants Mount Kenya men to marry more than one wife.
Kaguthi has initiated the campaign arguing that polygamy will help reduce the escalating number of single parents in the region.
According to him, the campaign is also aimed at improving the population in central Kenya which is highly affected by alcoholism, hence, low birth rate.

"We are cautioning everybody including the young female, don't be mean, we want children, we mean business," he said while addressing the clergy drawn from Tharaka Nithi, Embu and Meru counties.
Not ending there, he further added that women will only be selfish and inconsiderate not to accommodate their husbands' lover.
Kaguthi said: “It is selfish and inconsiderate of women not to share their husbands. We are in a crisis in this region. Our population is dwindling at an alarming rate and soon, it will be irreversible, unless we allow men and women to openly acknowledge polygamous unions. The single parent phenomenon is so widespread and more men and women are growing up without knowing how men and women are supposed to relate to each other. We must embrace who we are as a people. We are not like the coastal communities who enter into polygamous unions for the sake of having a protector, provider and perpetrator.”

He also revealed that if it is possible for Kenyan men to afford the expenses of marrying another wife, they should not hide their feelings and must not hide under the umbrella of the Western culture.
