- A 40-year-old man in Plateau state allegedly strangled his 8-month pregnant wife to death after getting their housemaid pregnant

- He lied about her death saying she felt dizzy and slumped

- The medics found marks around her neck and reported this to the police who arrested him

Police have arrested Victor Dashit, a 40-year-old man who allegedly strangled Irene, his eight months pregnant wife.

Terna Tyopev, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) spoke on the matter saying Dashit, an employee of the National Industrial Court (NIC) killed his pregnant wife on Friday, June 2. The couple lives at the New Abuja area in Jos.

Irene was a 33-year-old teacher who was allegedly killed at their farm in Kangang. According to the report, Dashit asked for his brother’s help in moving her to the hospital after lying that she slumped minutes after complaining of being dizzy.

A family member also spoke on the incident stating the kind of life lived by the couple as they had lots of problems that led to domestic violence.

Irene was said to have sent the girl out but the girl returned after two months claiming she was pregnant. Nora’s pregnancy made things worse for the couple as they could not live past the phase. This made Irene leave the house for her parents’ house in Gindiri. But for the persuasion of her pastor, the deceased might never have returned.

Irene reportedly returned to her husband’s house in November 2016 when family members intervened. She got pregnant almost immediately even though she had given birth to two daughters. The baby boy removed from her womb after she died did not survive.

The investigation done by medics however contravened the statement made by Dashit. They had found marks on her neck showing she was strangled. The matter was reported at Anglo Jos Police Station where he eventually confessed to the crime.
