Female politician spotted preparing tea for her father in the kitchen (photos)

- Australia's first African senator is a Kenyan from Nyeri county

- Senator Lucy Gichui visited Kenya for a month where she paid courtesy calls on Nyeri legislators

- While there, she also dialled down her international status and prepared tea for her father in a dark, smoky room on a three-stone fire

- This move endeared her to Kenyans

Lucy Gichuhi, the first Kenyan born Australian senator visited her home country where she is expected to be for the next month.

She arrived in the country a few days ago and paid a courtesy call to the legislators from her home county including Governor Mutahi Kahiga.

She is set to address the Nyeri County Assembly where she will address members on how to bridge the gap between Kenya and Australia.

Gichuhi made a point to visit her family in Hiriga village where she forgot her international status as Australia's first African senator and returned back to the basics.

In photos seen by NAIJ.com on Monday, January 8, she braved the traditional three-stone cooking method as she prepared tea for her father, a move that humbled her before Kenyans.

Gichuhi migrated to Australia in 1999. She is an accountant by profession. She at first did not clinch the nomination to vie because of her Kenyan roots but she fought tooth and nail to be recognised as an Australian citizen so that she could be considered.

She has a degree from the University of South Australia as well as a degree in Commerce.
