Gichuhi made a point to visit her family in Hiriga village where she forgot her international status as Australia's first African senator and returned back to the basics.
In photos seen by NAIJ.com on Monday, January 8, she braved the traditional three-stone cooking method as she prepared tea for her father, a move that humbled her before Kenyans.
Gichuhi migrated to Australia in 1999. She is an accountant by profession. She at first did not clinch the nomination to vie because of her Kenyan roots but she fought tooth and nail to be recognised as an Australian citizen so that she could be considered.
She has a degree from the University of South Australia as well as a degree in Commerce.
