Help, my father is threatening to disown me if I don't study medicine - Confused NAIJ.com reader cries out

- A NAIJ.com reader has expressed his present dilemma which has left him confused and sad

- According to the story, his father wants him to study medicine against his will

- Although not yet in school due to several delays, his interest lies in computer sciences

For a country like Nigeria which has become more accommodating when it comes to the various career choices, it appears there are still some people who believe only a few vocations should be considered professional. While many people are soaring in various fields that they are passionate about, not everyone is however so lucky to follow their dreams.

A NAIJ.com reader has used the social media platform to share his heartbreaking story. According to him, after finishing secondary school, his father had already chosen medicine as the course he would study. Despite having a passion for computer sciences, he obeyed his father and applied for the course. Although he applied three times and failed, it didn't deter his father's urge for his son to become a doctor. Currently abroad trying to still achieve his father's dream, he is however very sad at the frustration he's being made to go through.

He wrote: ""My name is Emmanuel and this is my story. I went to primary and secondary school at a very early age, graduated at the age of 15, and entered the University at the age of 16. Unn precisely, 2010. My first trial, I wrote Jamb and post ume for medicine, among thousands of students who were aspiring for same medicine as it is the most sorted after course in universities, due to the Kind of Country we live in, where a computer science student may never write a single program until he graduates, so how can he get a job."

"Well that one aside. Long story short, I did not get the medicine. I wanted to switch to another course, precisely computer, because I was good at it, and I knew then that computer and the internet is revolutionizing the world! And I saw medicine as old school and boring to go spend almost my prime studying, for what!? Well, trust me, when I gave my parents a hint, not even verbally telling them oo. My Dad told me it was medicine or nothing! I was sad, I had no one else, what can I do. So my friends I continued searching for medicine like Gulder Ultimate Search. My parents (Dad especially) was determined to do anything within his power, to get me to study medicine.

After my Initial first shot at Jamb and post ume, I was 16 then like I said, A professor in the school advised that I apply for a change of course, from there he would help us work me into medicine! Well I said that my self, that even though I get admitted into medicine, that after studying it, I would not work as a medical doctor, I will only return the certificate my father paid for the him, and I knew by then, it would be a bit late and I will be kinda old to go study computer again, because the strength and enthusiasm won't be there again, so I would just pursue my second and third passion of making, acting, revolutionizing the Nigeria movie Industry, because it was part of my passions. I wrote good movie scripts and plans that I kept till date for future use based on the making films, likewise politics, the third passion. Anyways, as I was saying, My fellow brethren do you know I wrote Jamb 3! Consecutive times!

And at each trial I failed to get admitted into medicine! Remember I was already in another course (zoology) as advised by the Prof. This was never close to anything I wanted the do, but the prof said he could get me from there to medicine. My people, my father was willing to pay anything, any amount to any body who could help get me admitted into medicine. This was not what I was particularly proud about, but what can I say. But when I could not say anything, somehow I believed destiny was speaking for me! Other money that people pay and get what they wanted, other offices that other people enter in this "our" fantastically corrupt country, pay some amount of money, and get what they wanted. My father did same things, lo and behold brothers and sisters, I was not granted admission into medicine! Lol. Well people that is not the end of the story.

"To cut the long story short, I continued my surge for medicine, as a matter of fact, after the third year, I changed university to another, now a state university in search of same thing, guess what, I did not get it there. Now I am already 18 and getting tired of this sh*ts! I am supposed to be taking about youngest graduate now, but no, here am I searching for something my heart don't agree with. Well, at this point, I made my frustrations known to my parents, I was already tired!! Ahh ahh, you can't beat a child and ask him or her not to cry! "I told my parents that I can't come and go kill my self" because they want me to study medicine, Haba this is 4 years already. My mates have graduated. Anyways, Trust my Dad in getting what he Wants. What happened next my people, my Father sent me abroad!

My travel abroad, what happened before and during the process of me traveling was an entire episode and dilemma on its own, as a matter of fact then was even sadder for me, but let me just not get into that now, let's leave it for another day! Finally I came abroad! I am in Yankee! Wow! At least all thanks the God, one of my dreams have come through, because to be honest with you guys, I detest the Nigeria system of education! Respect the every Nigeria student, it's not easy what you made to endure, but it's going to be fine! If we could put hands together we will make it fine! (Emmanuel, what are you even saying, you that they are about to Disown. You are thinking of how to make Nigeria fine! What some have tried and failed, that's what you are thinking. Well continue thinking, until you find yourself on the streets of Moscow, with this blazing cold! I go know if you will think of making any place better! Don't worry, your Disownment later is coming!) sorry guys, that was my mind! Gosh! Am just confused!

Well, I came here, and as God and purpose may have it, somehow I did not enter Medical School here again!! Hahaha! Mtcheww, for some reason, I was put in a language school first! Gosh! You see how Destiny and my father are dragging who will prevail oo! They both are using my life are my time to try out their supremacy battle! Heniway! They should continue, God is watching! This is 5 years! I am now 20! And I am still not doing medicine, at this point Ayaf tire!! But now, being a Europe, opened my eye, sorry my mouth, gave Me a lot of insight, now I am a proactive thinker, thinking of how to make my country better, thinking of how to Bring Revolution to Africa, to bring a permanent change to a lot of things going wrong in Africa! And I can't do that by spending the next 6 to 7 years of my life studying a course I don't really like and won't serve. Studying it will only mean returning the certificate to the rightful owner, My Dad. So now I have to first of all fight my own battles and win! Before I go to fight the Battle of the Black Nation! Because when I get some silly racial abuse here, (all blacks in any white country do) what gets me going is, I say to them "don't worry leave your d*mn country one day, and I will go build mine!

Then you will never see me or my children to abuse again! Then the tide will change. (Emmanuel, you very funny oo! Hahaha. See what you are thinking! Unrealistic things! Have the old finished stealing the money, have the youths finished fooling around that you want to change the country! Or oh! You think it's what you can achieve alone! Mtcheww! Don't worry, is like this disowning thing have not gotten to you! Just calm down! When no you don't see anyone to pay your bills, then you will change Africa from the streets! Just continue fooling yourself!) my mind! Not again! My mind stop tormenting me! Sorry guys, that was my mind () Gosh! Am depressed! sighs. Well finally I gathered the courage, told my Dad, in a manner which i feel will make him understand, and then he said he already told, or rather bragged to everyone who cared that listened that I am doing medicine, and that's what I must do!

That I can't come and go and bring Shame to him. Lol. He subtly threatened to Disown me! If I did anything other than medicine! Right now I am in a cross road! If I obey my Dad and fearfully via for medicine here, which I never can tell the kind of difficulties awaits me there, all my dreams and aspirations especially towards my nation will die a natural death, because I will be devastated and loose myself! If I prove tough and disobey him, well it's like that the dreams and aspirations will still not manifest! You need money and funding to keep you going in this life! Tell me, is it in the blazing winter, that Is when I don't get any money to pay my bills and I get thrown it, is it in the blazing cold that I can pursue my ambiguous dreams!? My father is the only one I have! No rich uncles, or aunties, no relatives etc. So the moment he decided to let me go, I might as well be lost! Brethren this is my Story! Or wait, maybe, just maybe I'll just end this and make all man rest!
