A photo recently went viral on social media showing Pope Francis holding the hand of a girl with Down’s syndrome. Many reacted commending the Pope for his kind gesture.
The reported story behind the picture was that the girl stood up and ran towards the Pope as he was giving his speech. Initially, the story said she was stopped by his security detail but the man of God intervened and asked her to come sit near him.
However, this story has been proven to be fake. A report published on Indy100.com reveals that the reported story is false.

According to them, the image was taken during an official audience of Special Olympics athletes with the Pope in October 2017. Special Olympics Chairman Timothy Shriver delivered a speech, calling for an inclusion revolution for athletes with special needs.
The young girl pictured, four-year-old Gemma Pompili from Rome, was invited to present Pope Francis with a pair of red Special Olympics-branded sports shoes.
She is part of the Italian Special Olympics Young Athletes programme and was subsequently invited to site beside the Pope for the duration of the event.
