Police officers have come out warn youths who go on blind dates with people they met on social media. They warned parents to be careful about the group of friends their children hang out with, especially their lovers.
They gave an insight about dating platforms and its undue advantage. The Rapid Response Squad (RRS), took to its Facebook profile to reveal how a young man stole his lover’s phone after going on a blind date with her.
It was disclosed that the young man carried out this act after he sent her to get drinks for them but before she got back he disappeared.

The post reads: “If you have a teenage daughter or son, please lend us ears. If you are a bachelor or a spinster, please, let us reason together. If you are a single parent or a divorcee, this issue concerns you. If you are married and still ‘exploring other fertile grounds’ you might need to watch it. If you are a guardian, you need to read this and start guarding well. Our society and its evolving hi-tech are throwing up weird crime, crime that are alien to our clime. These are moments we all need to start exercising caution and think well before you CLICK. We have heard the story of Cynthia Osokogu’s killers in a hotel in Festac. We are happy the killers had their judgement. Sometime in September last year, Shade, after listening to a late night dating programme agreed to meet her blind date in Ikeja. Before this, they had communicated back and forth on phone. On the said date, her boyfriend bought her drinks and so they ate. Unknown to Shade, her date had a new fascination beyond her. He sent Shade to get more drinks. Before Shade came back, the supposed ‘boyfriend’ had absconded with her two mobile phones. In a similar approach, Michael Atanda who was arrested by RRS operatives recently was equally blinded by fascination. Hiding under the picture of a handsome London based Nigerian Segun Bayo, he would woo ladies on Facebook, get them to expose their body parts and threaten to expose them in exchange for money. Sadly, for four of his victims, there was no limit. He taunted, blackmailed and extorted till RRS arrested him. We are not concluding that Badoo and Facebook are bad social media platforms. We must expose these cases for us to learn and exercise caution when it is required. There are tons of cases happening all around only that we just need to learn from some of them. It is in doing this that we won’t fall into pit holes of criminals trying to take Undue Advantage of us.”
