Meet the young man who invented a ‘water bicycle’, gets full scholarship from Ghanaian university

The young Ghanaian who invented a bicycle that is ridden on water was been giving a full scholarship by the Takoradi Technical University.

Identified as Frank Darko, he is already a final year student of the university and rose to prominence after inventing a unique bicycle that can be ridden on water.

The wonderful innovation became known by the world after the BBC decided to feature it on their various portals.

The innovation soon went viral on social media, leaving many people in awe of how such a piece was put together.

Darko later revealed that he was inspired by the plight of some pupils who had to swim before getting to school. So he invented the ‘water bicycle’.

He said: “I was watching a documentary some years back and I saw school children swimming across a river before going to school. So, I told myself, what can I do to help these children and I started thinking. Finally, I was able to come up with this idea” .

However, his exploits appeared to have really impressed the hierarchy of the Takoradi Technical University, who have decided to award him a full scholarship.

A publication on the University’s website said the move is geared towards encouraging other students to adopt innovative ways of solving societal problems.

The Vice Chancellor Professor John Frank Eshun added that the full scholarship was to: “Motivate Darko to undertake more innovations to solve the challenges in the Ghanaian society and the world at large”.

According to him, the university will support other students who endeavor to bring forth such innovations. Adding that they are ready to collaborate with students who come up with such innovations in order to stand the test of time.
