Nigerian lady claims there were gay unions in Igbo culture before the British colonization (photos)

A young Nigerian lady based in the United States has revealed unknown details about the Igbo culture. The lady identified as Christiana Amarachi Mbakwe alleged that women were allowed to marry other women in the Igbo culture before colonization.

The lady who is a media personality in New York City claimed that the unions were allowed to preserve and continue a lineage that was broken due to death and at times when a woman is unable to give birth or give birth to a male child.

According to Mbakwe who shared her thoughts on Twitter, a widow can choose to marry another woman after the death of her husband. She stated that the woman would marry a younger woman and if they wished to have children they could ask a man to father the child.

However, other Nigerians who are Igbos stated that Mbakwe did not give the information correctly. They explained a widow (Female husband) who did not give birth to a child or a male child before her husband passed away would marry a younger woman to continue the lineage.

They revealed that the younger woman (Female wife) would sleep with a man from the widow’s late husband’s family to father a child that would bear the name of the female husband to preserve the lineage.
