Besides piaggios, commonly known as keke in local dialect, passengers can board a mini-bus or even ride on a motorbike taxi. The choice is absolutely theirs.

In attempts to beat that cut-throat competition for passengers, a group of three young gentlemen came up with an idea on how to stay on top of the game.

Parlitoh, manager (conductor) of the three-wheeled vehicle, added that the vehicle is still relatively new in the market and not many people in Thika town have used it.

"It is not yet very popular at the moment, but there are customers who know it and appreciate it. Most of our customers are students and youth in general," he said.

Banito, the driver, on his part said one of the challenges they are facing is that because of how the keke looks, older people think it's only meant for the youth and therefore choose to keep off.

Some also think it's very expensive and go for the other kekes around.

"The fare is not different. For instance town service is N178 Those traveling outside Thika town will party with N713 and above," said Banito.
