- Governor Okorocha wants Imo people to continue to pray for his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, as he marches towards becoming his successor

- Okorocha denies that Nwosu had stepped down from his ambition to govern Imo state

- Theodore Ekechi, Okorocha’s former commissioner, criticizes the governor for endorsing Nwosu as his successor

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo has appealed to the people of the state to pray for his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, as his successor in an apparent reaction to heavy criticism he received from his former commissioner, Theodore Ekechi.

Vanguard reports that Ekechi, a loyalist of the All Progressives Congress, described Okorocha’s move as “anachronistic, unhealthy, unacceptable and a serious threat to the development and growth of All Progressives Congress in Imo state.”

Speaking with journalists in Owerri, the former commissioner said: “The endorsement of his son-in-law will definitely reduce the chance of the APC in the forthcoming general elections.

“There are more intellectually endowed and vibrant personalities in the state, who are more qualified to be endorsed than his son in-law.”

Ekechi reportedly argued for the restoration of the zoning formula in the state for equity, justice, fair play and development, adding that Orlu zone had ruled the state now for 16 years.

However, Okorocha, through his spokesperson, Sam Onwuemeodo, urged the people of the state, not to relent in praying for his son-in-law.

According to the governor, Nwosu merits the qualities to be his successor and his support would remain unshakeable.

He urged the people to disregard the statement claiming that Nwosu had withdrawn from the race and continue to work and pray for him.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that Governor Rochas Okorocha, on Tuesday, March 13, disclosed the All Progressive Congress (APC) is unpopular in the Southeast of Nigeria.

Okorocha made the disclosure at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, on arrival from a short overseas trip.

The governor called on the state House of Assembly to immediately "perfect the local government laws," so elections can hold by June.
