Don't expect to receive equal pay with doctors - FG tells striking health workers

- Doctors and health workers cannot receive an equal salary, the federal government has announced

- This was contained in a statement released by spokesperson to the minister of health Isaac Adewole

- According to the minister, health workers demand for parity with medical doctors is neither practicable nor acceptable to the federal government

The federal government has warned Nigerian health workers not to expect an equal salary with medical doctors.

The minister of health, Isaac Adewole, said health workers' demand to receive same pay with doctors is unrealistic and unacceptable, Punch reports.

In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Olajide Oshundun, the minister urged the health workers under the Joint Health Sector Union to call of their ongoing strike.

Oshundun said: “Indeed, the Federal Government has put machinery in place to ensure that the strike is called off by meeting with JOHESU officials on several occasions, the last being on Wednesday April 25, 2018, at the office of the minister of labour and employment in Abuja.

“An offer has been made to adjust the salaries and wages of JOHESU members by the federal government.

But what JOHESU is asking for is parity with medical doctors, which is neither practicable nor acceptable to the federal government," Oshundun said.

The moves by the relatives, NAIJ.com gathered, had drastically reduced the number of patients in the facility leaving only those who could not be moved due to terrible health conditions.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that the federal government had set up a committee to review the technical and financial aspects of the demands by the striking health workers.
