How John Oyegun averted bloodshed at Imo APC congress - Governor Okorocha

- Governor Okorocha accused some opposition members of planning to destroy Imo APC

- He pledges that leaders of the party will not allow the opposition succeed in their evil game

- Party member reportedly shot dead at APC congress in Agege

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo has lauded the APC national working committee led by John Oyegun for postponing the local government congress which was supposed to be be held on Saturday, May 12.

Okorocha said the decision has saved what would have resulted in a blood shed as thugs have continued to attack both party members and the office over the outcome of the last Saturday’s ward congress, The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

According to a statement signed by the governor’s chief press secretary Sam Onwuemeodo, Okorocha accused some opposition members of the party of plans to destroy the party.

Okorocha pledged that leaders of the APC will not allow them to succeed in their “evil game”.

He however called for a new date for the ward congress to be held, insisting that irregularities marred the last Saturday’s ward congress in Imo.

NAN reports that Hilary Eke, the APC Imo chairman, announced the postponement of the congress to Monday, May 14, following advice by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

Eke said the postponement followed an attack by hoodlums on the party’s secretariat as well as other issues.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) local government congress in Agege, Lagos state, has reportedly turned bloody after a man was allegedly shot dead during a fracas that ensued after voting had ended on Saturday, May 12.

Premium Times reports that deceased identified as Nurudeen Olanose, was allegedly shot at Central School, Dopemu, while two others are in critical condition.

The newspaper stated that nine people have been arrested and taken to Area G Police Division in Agege over the violence that trailed the congress.
