Recall that the office of the AGF had written a letter to the United States embassy and asked the embassy to make a fresh request to facilitate the commencement of new extradition proceedings against Kashamu since the courts had dismissed the one written in 2015.

Olanipekun said in the letter to the AGF: “There cannot be any justification for the Nigerian government through the exalted office of the attorney general of the federation to push for the extradition of our client (Kashamu).

“There is nothing in any of the two judgments of the Court of Appeal warranting, calling for or signalling the extradition of our client either from within or without Nigeria, and more particularly, from the high office of the chief law officer of our dear country.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the senator representing Ogun East senatorial district filed two notices of appeal at the Supreme Court, urging it to set aside the Court of Appeal judgment which dismissed his fundamental rights suit challenging the move to extradite him to the US.

Kashamu, through his counsels, averred that the Court of Appeal erred in dismissing his objections.

Kashamu said: "The lower court misdirected itself when it held that the appellant has not made out a case of breach or likelihood of a breach of his fundamental rights."
