PDP chairman in Anambra reveals why opposition lost 2015 presidential election

- The chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) in Anambra, Ndubisi Nwobu, has revealed why the party lost to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015

- Nwobu said that the PDP alienated itself from Nigerians when it was in power

- He also said that the present economic crisis in the country was God's way of making Nigerians seek his face and return to him

Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu, the Anambra state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP), on Sunday, June 3, said that the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Muhammadu Buhari, in the 2015 Presidential election, was God's punishment on the party for standing aloof from the people.

Nwobu said this in his reception speech to top members of a new political pressure group, known as Truth Is Life International, came to lend their support to the PDP, The Sun reports.

He further said that the present economic constraint in the country was self-inflicted and is being used by God to make Nigerians seek his face.

Nwobu said: “Our failure in 2015 has taught us enough lesson: that we must serve the people. We alienated ourselves from the people, that was why we lost that election ( Presidency) in 2015. But we have learnt our lesson. We can never repeat the mistake again.

“I want to assure you that the calibre of person the PDP will present as Presidential candidate for 2019 election will show everybody that nothing will stop PDP from chasing Buhari and APC out of power.”

He stressed that his leadership had started aggressive tour of the local governments, stressing that before the end of the June, the PDP would have functional offices in all the 326 wards in the state where people can get registered to become members of the party, if they were willing.

He also remarked: “I am convinced that this suffering, this hardship we inflicted on ourselves will come to an end in 2019. Everybody should go and obtain his or her PVC because if you say that you are supporting PDP to win and you don’t have PVC you are just wasting your time, because it is with your pVC that you can vote out Buhari and APC, and then vote in PDP”.

“Another area I must give you advice is on the issue of money politics. We must de-emphasize money in the forthcoming elections so that we can enthrone a credible leaders that will give us good governance.

“We have already commenced local government tours. We have been to Ekwusigo. This week, we will be in Nnewi North and Nnewi South; Onitsha North and Onitsha South; Anambra East and Anambra West, Oyi and Ayamelum. Our plan is that in the next three weeks we would have finished touring all the 21 local governments in the state.

“And before 1st July, 2018, PDP will have functional offices in all the Wards in Anambra state so that anybody who wants to join the party can go to the wards and get registered because if anybody wants to join a political party it is at the wards that he person will go and register. And when you register try to participate actively in the activities of the party in the Ward."

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that the PDP had apologised to Nigerians for the mistakes it made while governing Nigeria.

Uche Secondus, national chairman of the party, said this on Monday, March 26, at a public discourse on contemporary politics and governance in Nigeria, organized by the PDP in Abuja.
