A breakdown of the 23-man squad revealed that the former Wigan coach left out the duo of Crystal Palace striker Christian Beneteke as well as Watford defender Christian Kabasele.
However, the Spaniard named Manchester City’s captain Vincent Kompany despite picking up an injury on Saturday during their friendly against Portugal.

Although there were apprehension that the hard tackling defender will not make the cut, Martinez felt otherwise as he retained the Citizens’ strongman before sending Laurent Ciman to the stand-by list.
Similarly, the duo of Romelu Lukaku’s brother, Jordan and goalkeeper Matz Sels were also left out of the squad to Russia.
