We have no choice but to uphold peace in Nigeria - Aisha Buhari tells women

- The wife of the president, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, has urged Nigerian women to promote peace in Nigeria

- Aisha Buhari said that unity and peace cannot be compromised in the country

- She also said that in the absence of peace, youths will be used for negative reasons by scheming politicians

Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, the wife of the president, has urged women in the country to advocate for peace especially among youths.

The wife of the president said that peace and unity cannot be compromised as long as Nigeria is concerned, Leadership reports.

Aisha Buhari's media aide, Suleiman Haruna in a statement remarked that she said this in her speech at the Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja as she broke her fast (Iftar) in the company of some women leaders.

She remarked that breaking of fast among friends inspires oneness of purpose, stressing that “we are friends because we all share a common bond to strengthen the unity and harmony in Nigeria”.

She reminded mothers of the need to promote the spirit of peaceful coexistence among their children, the youth, who are used negatively by different interest groups.

She said: “Fasting reflects sacrifice, self denial and ultimate obedience to the will of God, iftar reflects rebirth, renewal and rejuvenation.”

Aisha Buhari she said that Nigerians long for newness of spirit in the country as far as peace is concerned.

Dolapo Osinbajo, the wife of the vice president said that fasting and prayers are ways to praise God for all that he has done for mankind.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that a Nigerian woman Bolouere Opukiri with the media unit of the presidential amnesty office had lost her job after she reportedly criticised Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and President Muhammadu Buhari’s wife, Aisha, on Twitter.

NAIJ.com gathered that in the July 5, 2017 tweet, she described the then-acting president Osinbajo as ‘a novice’ for travelling out of the country at a time President Muhammadu Buhari was receiving medical treatment in London and tension was flaring between the executive and the legislature.
