The outgoing national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), John Odigie-Oyegun, has said he was not intimidated out of office.

Vanguard reports that Oyegun in an interview with some journalists said his decision to vacate the chairmanship position on June 25, 2018, was based on his own consideration of what was in the best interest of the APC.
He said: “I wasn’t intimidated out. I took into consideration, and I was influenced by my own consideration of what is in the best interest of the APC. I have relatively been stubborn.
“I have been through several intense opposition with some saying ‘Oyegun must go’, but I said there was no reason why Oyegun should go and I held to the point of principle and what makes me so happy today is that in all the virility or intensity of the attacks, it was easy to locate it."
He said while some party members were calling for him to step down, the top leadership of the party was on his side.
Oyegun stated that he felt it was time to let somebody else bring some different air into the system. He said it was in the interest of the party to avoid being the problem or the major part of the problem in the party.
Meanwhile, Osita Okechukwu, the director-general of the Voice of Nigeria (VON) and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has advised Governor Rochas Okorocha to leave the party if he so desires.

Okechukwu, who spoke with newsmen at the APC national secretariat in Abuja on Monday, June 4, said that the APC would win the 2019 elections without Okorocha, The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
According to him, the actions and inactions of Okorocha have caused the APC more setbacks in the last four years in Imo and the south-east in general.
