A couple has had the very unlikely record of conceiving two sets of twins, even though the mother used contraception on both occasions.

The first surprise pregnancy for Emma Power came at age 19, when even though she was on the pill, she found out she was going to have twin boys. She then switched to an implant, only to conceive AGAIN, barely a few years later, this time with twin girls. This is a one in three billion odds!

Both Emma and her husband John underwent respective sterilisation and vasectomy, just in case.
The Multiple Births Foundation has announced they had never heard of something similar to the Powers’ case before.
Experts have determined that these out of the normal double-twin pregnancies are due to augmented fertility in both the man’s and the woman’s case.

Emma remembers that her husband did not want to believe she was going to have a second set of twins, until she showed him the scan photo with two heartbeats on it.

Due to the possibility that Emma’s body could have her sterilisation reversed, which is not that uncommon in many cases, Mr Power decided to not take any more chances, and went on to also have a vasectomy.
Both sets of twins are five years apart. The boys are now ten, and the girls are four years old.
