A 33-year-old man, Emmanuel Anya, has pleaded not guilty before Otta Magistrate Court, Ogun state, for allegedly stabbing a young girl, 8, with a spoon.

On Monday, the prosecutor Chudu Gbesi, revealed to the court that the accused allegedly committed the offence at about 2pm on Tuesday, March 14, at his residence. He added that, he assaulted the girl with a spoon on her forehead which gave her bruises.

He said that it was the noise of the girl that alerted neighbours who reported the matter to the police.
Gbesi said that the offence contravened Section 355 of the Criminal Code Vol. 11, Law of Ogun, 2006. The Senior Magistrate, Mr S.O. Banwo, granted the accused N50,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
