An unknown Nigerian footballer, Benjamin Ogunbajo has taken the Iraqi Kurdistan League by storm this season where he currently makes waves with one of the leading clubs, Kirkuk Sports Club.

NAIJ.com gathered that the 20-year-old former Nigeria Professional Football (NNL) side, Atiba United FC, striker joined the Kirkuk based club side midway into the 2016/17 season and has made instant impression with an impressive performances, scoring four goals and two assists to help his club secure a slot in the season ending Super four play-off.

Ogunbajo who is eyeing a bigger offer in Europe any time soon, had earlier in January clinched the coveted ‘Best Professional Player Award’ for the 1st Round of the season, a merit award for the best foreign player in the Iraqi Kurdistan League.

In a message sent to NAIJ.com, Benjamin Ogunbajo narrates his experience in Nigerian local league and how he joined his new club. He said he would be happy if the NFF gives him the chance to also contribute to development of Nigerian football
He said: “I am Ogunbajo Benjamin Olamide. I was born and brought up in Lagos but my parents are from Ogun state.
“I am the third child of the family of seven. I scaled through some amateur football clubs in Nigeria and Ghana including Skillfuk fc, Gateway fc, Afijio fc, Atiba fc and Liberty professional in Ghana to mention but few.
“I am educated with a degree in computer science and also once a principal cup player for United Christian Secondary School and a Shell cup winner for the same school before I proceeded to continue my football career in the NNL with Atiba United.

“After that, I moved to the Iraqi Kurdistan premier league with Kirkuk sporting club where I am one of the highest goal scorer nominees presently and I am currently playing in the league super four with my team for the league title.
"I just fired my team to a 1:0 victory being the 1st victory for Kirkuk in the super 4."
