Fresh graduate from Unilag wins Lagos Photo Festival’s N3.7m prize

A fresh graduate from University of Lagos, named Anthony Obayomi, on Sunday November 26 won N3.7m prize money at the 2017 Lagos Photo Festival for the best submission for Photography Portfolio Review.

Anthony was announced as the winner of the prize after a jury which consist a representative of the sponsor, National Geographic Kaitlin Yarnall, popular photographer TY Bello, former official photographer of president Buhari, Bayo Omoboriowo among others reviewed the entries sent in by photographers.

Anthony’s portfolio focused on the shortage of accommodation for students at the University of Lagos.

According to The Guardian, Kaitlin Yarnall, who is the vice president, Media Innovation, National Geographic Society said ;

The entire panel of judges was blown away by Anthony’s work. His work on the housing shortage at the University of Lagos was thorough, varied, and intimate

“It was clear that he had spent a year working this topic and had gained incredible access

“We looked at dozens of portfolios and gave a prize of N3.7m to the best submission. But most importantly, we gave feedback to every single photographer.”

The Lagos Photo Festival 2017, runs from November 24 to December 15.
