Real Madrid defied the odds and marked an era of dominance after winning the Uefa Champions League (UCL), a 13th time after defeating Liverpool in Kiev on Saturday, May 26.
However, despite being crowned UCL 2017/18 champions and winning the coveted cup three times successfully, La Liga rivals Barcelona ousted Los Blancos to become Europe's top club.
According to BBC Sport, the Gracenote's Euro Club Index ranking is produced from results over the past four seasons, with the most recent campaigns carrying the most weight of about two-thirds.

The Catalans managed to win the La Liga and Copa Del Rey this season 17 points ahead of rivals Madrid, edging past their rivals with 4, 333 points with Madrid coming in at second with 4, 190.
The recent table places Manchester City as the leading English club in fifth position with Tottenham and Manchester United coming in at ninth and tenth respectfully.

While speaking to BBC, head of analysis at Gracenote Simonn Gleave said that La Liga and the Bundesliga have more clubs in the top 100 than the Premier League.
Despite this, a closer analysis shows the Premier League has risen above the Bundesliga in terms of average quality when looking at the best 18 clubs in each league.

"But an analysis of the best 18 clubs in each league reveals that the Premier League has overtaken the Bundesliga in terms of the average quality of those 18 clubs," Gleave said.

Gleave believes the Serie A could topple their German competition by the end of the 2018/19 campaign if they continue performing as they have so far.
