The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has blamed violation of traffic rules by driver of a Mercedes 911 tipper for the road crash which killed six persons in Oru east local government area of Imo state on Thursday, May 31.
The Imo sector commander of FRSC, Joseph Aremu, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Owerri on Saturday, June 2. He gave the total number of casualties in the accident as 17.

Aremu said that out of the 17 passengers that were injured, six died, while eleven that sustained various degrees of injury, were taken to the hospital by FRSC officials.
He said that preliminary investigation indicted the driver of the Mercedes 911 tipper, who he said, drove against the traffic.
Aremu said that the command had started full-scale investigation into the incident, adding that he planned to visit the tipper drivers union for deliberations.
He promised that the command would begin a clampdown on traffic offenders and ensure that culprits were brought to face full wrath of the law.

NAN reported that the road accident, involving a heavy duty Mercedes 911 tipper and a passenger bus conveying 17 passengers, occurred on Thursday, May 31, in Oru east local government area killing six persons.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that the FRSC had advised motorists against carrying petrol in their attempt to beat fuel scarcity during travels.
