An Enugu-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Abdul Ishola, has called on traders to shun unjust measurement purposely meant to cheat and defraud customers.
Ishola, the chief missioner of Islamic centre, Uwani in Enugu, made this call on Saturday, June 2, while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in the state on the lessons of Ramadan.
He called on traders to be honest while dealing with their customers, especially with regard to the need to use the right and appropriate containers for measurement.
The cleric also advised that traders should not at any time for any reason, engage in the sale of fake products, or reduce the quantity when selling to people.
The cleric said: “Allah says in the Holy Qu’ran, that: woe to those people, who reduce measurement. Allah distastes them and will not fail to punish those that engage in it at the appropriate time.’’
Ishola, however, urged the Muslim Ummah (faithful) to use the period to give Zakkat and distribute other items to the less privileged within their neighbourhoods.

He said: “As Allah, the most merciful and the most gracious, also instructed Muslims to use this month of grace to give and share with the needy around them.’’
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that an Islamic cleric, Alhaji Abdulraheem Jimoh, had appealed to Nigerian traders and foodstuff sellers not to increase the prices of commodities, especially during Ramadan.
Jimoh, made the plea on Wednesday, May 2, in Ilorin, Kwara state noting that it was common for many sellers to inflate prices of their goods once the holy season was about to start.
